Dear Catholic Friend,

"To support, defend, and advance the efforts of the Teaching Church." That is why H. Lymam Stebbins founded Catholics United for the Faith (CUF) in 1968. As a convert to the Catholic faith, he watched in horror as thousands of Catholics embraced modernist heresies and dissented from Humanae Vitae. He believed that the laity needed proper formation. He believed that the laity needed to learn how to practice the one, true faith. Only if the laity are properly formed and prayerfully practice the faith will they be able to effectively advance the truth.

Pope John Paul II knighted Mr Stebbins a Commander in the Order of St. Gregory in 1988 because of his work with CUF. Mr. Stebbins died the same year.

We carry on the mission entrusted to us by Mr. Stebbins by accomplishing the following:

  • We operate a toll-free helpline ([1-800]-MY-FAITH [693-2484]) for Catholics with questions, and publish over 160 FAITH FACTS that provide faithful answers to questions about the faith. We help over 1,000 people through Information Services each month.
  • We publish an award-winning magazine, Lay Witness, ten times each year. The magazine carries articles and Bible studies written by some of the finest Catholic authors today. Our articles draw from the rich works of Catholic stalwarts who defended the faith in years past, such as the early Church Fathers and St. Thomas Aquinas. Many of our authors also reflect the thought of faithful thinkers of the last century, such as Dietrich and Alice von Hildebrand and Bishop Sheen. We carry excerpts from statements made by the Holy Father, news briefs on happenings in the Catholic world, and book reviews.
  • We provide a host of other services to assist the laity in their personal formation and apostolic activities. We publish solidly Catholic Bible studies and other spiritually enriching books. We research questions on the faith for our members. We have a chapter program that encourages members to gather locally for prayer, encouragement, formation, and apostolic activity.

I invite you to consider becoming a member of Catholics United for the Faith. [By calling our toll-free number, all the following material will be sent to you.] The enclosed brochure explains our apostolate and the benefits of membership. It also contains a Premium membership offer that allows you to obtain some excellent Catholic resources. Membership is a suggested $30.00 tax-deductible donation for a calendar year, and $300.00 for lifetime membership. If you choose to become a member, please use either the enclosed card or the brochure.

When you join, you are not simply getting another magazine, or joining another Catholic club. Our members support the fullness of truth possessed by the Catholic Church, and we are committed to making that truth known joyfully and in a manner compelling to all who contact us.

Please, for the defense of the faith, join today.

United in the Faith,

Leon J. Suprenant, Jr.
President
